Somaiyah Hafeez is an independent journalist from Balochistan, Pakistan. Her work focuses on human rights, climate change and society at large. She has published in The Guardian, The Diplomat, The New Humanitarian and New Lines Magazines amongst several other national and international news organisations. For the APWLD media and visual fellowship on militarism, peace and women’s human rights, Somaiyah reported from her home province of Balochistan which has been undergoing an insurgency since the early 2000s and where the Pakistani military is allegedly involved in human rights violations. Reportedly, thousands are missing from the impoverished province. Somaiyah is currently pursuing a master’s in Data Journalism from Columbia Journalism School.
