Domestic workers in Malaysia, like many of those around the world, work tirelessly from dusk to dawn. However, despite the important roles they play in many households and families, domestic work remains to be undervalued and many of the workers are vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. This is nothing new of course. Over the years, we’ve read about many different cases of abuse and even murder, of the women who work in this field. Is enough being done to protect them? In this podcast, we discuss the integral role that the legal system and political will plays in guaranteeing the safety of domestic workers in Malaysia and ensuring that domestic workers are afforded the same rights as employees in other fields, such as annual leaves, compensation for overtime work and protection from harassment and discrimination.
